Wedding Songs

I once worked with a girl who told me her wedding song was "Nights in White Satin." I was surprised at that, but thought it unique.

My wedding song was "Suddenly" by Billy Ocean. My husband picked it out.

What was your wedding song? (whether you're still married or divorced)

A Father's Love

Today, a coworker brought his son in for everyone to meet. His son was, of course, shy and wouldn't leave his father's side. Dad proudly wrapped his arm around his shoulders, as reassurance, while they stood in front of us. My coworker beamed with joy and pride and the love was just pouring out of him. And I can't wait to tell him that when I see him tomorrow. It was really sweet. He loves his son very much, and I knew that by the way he talks about him, but it was so special to see it, too.

A Step Back in Time

How is it that songs have the ability to turn back time? Tonight, on my way home from work, a song entitled "Jane" by Jefferson Starship came on the radio. It immediately took me back in time to my first night in a bar. (as a side note, and she knows it's coming: I can thank BabynTeens for corrupting me and taking me there .... and changing my license to get me in. We were 16 years old.)

Ironically, the next song that poured out of my car speakers was "Rock n Roll Fantasy." I don't remember who sang that. I find it ironic that that song played next, because that song reminds me of the same bar. It was a favorite song of a boy I met there. Too weird. I mean, I really felt like I was 16 again. It really freaked me out.

Okay, snap out of it. What year is it? 2005? That would make me how old??? hhhmmm, on second thought, maybe I'll stay 16 a little while longer. LOL

Another storm is rolling through. Fierce thunder, intense lightning, strong winds, rain coming down HARD, and the hummingbirds are fighting at the feeder. Those are tough little birds!!!! "What's a little storm?!" LOL

One thing I wish...... I wish the electricity would stay on or stay off. My smoke detectors keep chirping because it goes off and comes back on within seconds. My ears can't take the piercing sound. ugh

A Brand New Day

I woke up with a new sense of hope and optimism this morning. Not that I considered myself in some sort of depression, or anything. It's just that, with the sun shining so brightly through the windows, it's hard to believe such a horrendous storm passed through last night. With the exception of washed out debris collected on the sides of the roadway, you wouldn't even know there was a storm.

So, this is what they mean when saying 'it's the dawn of a new day.' I'm feeling revitalized and ready to tackle anything. Nature continues to surprise me. All this from a little sunshine. Go figure.

A little more than two months till our annual hiking trip in Maine.... today's a good day to start an exercise routine to build up stamina....

The sky opened up and the rain is coming down in buckets again. This is an everyday occurrence of late. Our dinner plans got cancelled. I was looking forward to a nice night out, too. I say we go out to dinner anyway! I'm in the mood to just go all out. I say that now, but by the time ordering dessert comes around, I'm stuffed and can't do it. LOL

Wow the thunder is so intense, my house just shook.

Whoa! I guess I must consider us pretty lucky. I just saw the local news and they were showing severe flooding of residential areas in our town. The water level is up to the second story windows!! While driving to work the other morning, I heard the radio announcer mentioning where roads were closed around town, but I had no idea of the horrible flooding of homes. Really devastating and the waters aren't expected to recede any time soon.

I don't know what the news is showing, but I am receiving all kinds of calls from concerned family members. It's nice to know they are thinking of us!

There is bad flooding all around us, but we've been lucky so far. However, it will be nice and calm and then we'll get a sudden downpour where, if you're driving, you have to pull off the road immediately because you can't see a thing. Although there are a few roads that are closed in our area because of flooding, the worst of it is where large rivers are overflowing, and that's quite a ways from us.

In the meantime, I'm tired and busy and loving it. I have to say I forgot what it was like to be on the go and feeling like a productive member of society again. No, I do not want my life to revolve around my new job, but right now I am really enjoying my time spent there learning the ropes. Next week I have meetings with three clients to introduce myself to them. It's great to be back out there in the trenches, but I'm also keeping a healthy balance of life outside of work. Atlanta has so much to do and see, and we're taking full advantage of that on the weekends.

Hurricane Central

I'm sitting here watching the news, where they are showing people evacuating Key West, and other residents boarding up their homes and businesses. I'm beginning to wonder if it's even worth living in Florida?! I guess there is something to be said to have ample warning so you can prepare, pack up, leave, or whatever .... but, still ....

Boppers

Every once in a while, I think of the DJ from Boppers (dance club) in New Haven, CT, circa mid-late 80's. He was very entertaining, doing great skits during songs. Also, the bouncers would all come to the dance floor for a skit of their own during a certain song. It was a very popular club at the time. I doubt it's still there, though.

Anyway, I wonder what that DJ is doing now? Was he a student at Yale by day, and earning money for tuition at Boppers at night? Is he now a successful attorney, or skilled surgeon? And, if that's the case, do his clients know about his DJ days?

Or, is he driving a cab somewhere? (which, I'm not saying is a bad thing....)

Fireworks

Last night we went to an outdoor concert. I had given the tickets to my hubby for his birthday. There was a threat of rain as we drove, but it turned out to be a perfect night - clear and not terribly humid.

We knew there was going to be a fireworks display afterwards, but I had no idea it was going to be so good. I thought, "okay, a few rinky dinky fireworks and we'll be on our way." Nope. This was a fullfledged real 4th of July display. They were truly spectacular. Perfect way to end the evening and start the holiday weekend.

For years, until last night, we walked away from firework displays disappointed. You see, one year we were visiting my cousin and her husband in Colorado, and we got invited up to dinner at their good friend's house. His house is situated on a mountain overlooking the town of Nederland. That night, after a fabulous dinner, we sat out on his deck and watched the fireworks. My husband and I could not believe our eyes when they started going off. We were literally eye-level with them. It was truly amazing. One of the best nights, not only with the show, but spending it with good friends.

With all of that said, time for me to go put our flag up.....
