deal or no deal

NO DEAL. Could not reach an agreement, so I did not accept the job I've been interviewing for for TWO months!

Oh well. The search continues.

The tease

We had a couple really beautiful days last week but, alas, it was just a tease. The rain came over the weekend and, with it, came that horrible bitter, damp cold, and it's supposed to be cold all week. BUT, as bad as I think it is, at least it isn't SNOW!! I saw a clip on the news tonight showing the snow in Indianapolis. I can barely remember those days.... I think I'm going to have to e-mail my old coworkers in Indianapolis and ask how their commute was :o)

round 1 of negotiations

FINALLY heard from the prospective employer. I was not impressed. At all. Salary offer was disappointingly low. Tomorrow I will counter. I'm going to go for a little more money and working one day at home, to offset the commute expense. I doubt they'll go for it, but it doesn't hurt to try. I believe the woman would be easy to work for and I feel she's very reasonable ... but, she has to answer to a higher-up, of course, who will probably squash it. Like I said, won't know unless I try!

TWO WOLVES

(Received in an e-mail tonight. Author unknown.)

One evening an old Indian told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside all people.

He said, "My son, the battle is between two 'wolves' inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, consideration and faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf wins?"

The old Indian simply replied, " the one you feed."

update.....

I received an e-mail from one of my references. He had been on vacation - skiing in Utah (nice!) ... and just spoke to my potential employer today. I guess that's what the hold-up was.

Maybe I'll hear something tomorrow????

I'm off now to the radio station for my weekly volunteer taping. BYE!

Okay, so I'm supposed to be getting an offer any day now.

Can we drag this out any longer????? Someone reminded me not too long ago that I am in the South now, where it is slow, slow, slow, slow. Will I ever get used to it?

And, after all of this anticipation, what if the offer stinks?!

The Little Things

I made my co-worker feel bad or, I should say, she made herself feel bad. She learned I send my husband's magazines to the troops and she said, "You read to the blind and send stuff to the troops?!"

I don't do things for the recognition. It's just ... if you can do something for someone else, why wouldn't you? Like, when I walked out of the post office and saw a woman holding a toddler and trying to balance two large boxes with one hand, why wouldn't I carry the boxes in to the post office for her?

It's kind of interesting to learn how others see you. Like the time I saw a guy at my high school reunion. He said to me, "Even though our paths didn't cross at all in high school, I always considered you a friend." Wow. That was really nice. I had no idea someone would think that.

It's amazing how you touch people's lives and don't have a clue. I'm glad I can make a difference in some small way.

Just another pic from the archive. This was one of flat trails the morning after a hike up the toughest trail on Traveler Mountain in Baxter State Park, Maine, Sept. 2004. We always take a nice easy trail the next morning to keep the leg muscles stretched. Hhmm, did I say easy? It was a number of miles and we climbed over many fallen trees. The best memory of this particular hike were the laughs shared with our friends. We enjoy this special time with them every year and can't wait to see them again this coming Sept.

Hubby left for Minnesota today, where he will be for the week. I couldn't help but rub it in that he's headed for 30 degree weather ... and we're in the 60's with bright sunshine and pear trees, magnolia trees and forsythia blooming.

I don't miss the business travel on days like this. Of course, it was great when leaving the snowy, blistering northern weather for warmer parts - which we're in now! LOL

Third interview today

OMG. I sure hope it is all worth it!

Even though I'm told I'm being offered a position on Monday (has to wait to run it by someone returning from vacation), they are calling my references tomorrow. (I don't understand how some things work...)

They are asking an additional reference, too (can be a personal one). S- are you going to be home tomorrow??
