Charleston pics ROUND ONE

Currently, I only have the fews pictures I took with my cell phone... I purchased a disposable camera while there and need to finish the roll before I can get it developed. I can't be the only one that forgets their digital camera on a trip... can I ?! hhmmm, probably not a very good thing to admit when my blog is entitled "My Journeys."

Below are two pictures of Fort Sumter. This is where the first shots of the civil war rang out. A fireplace from one of the officer's rooms is circled. The second picture is self-explanatory :o)

One night we went to Hyman's seafood restaurant for dinner. The establishment started out as a dry goods store over 100 years ago, and family members reinvented themselves over the years in order to survive. It has been a popular restaurant for (I think) ten years. It is not only a hot tourist spot; celebrities are brought in through a back door, which enables them to be seated with little fanfare. We were seated in the back where they come in, and our table had little plaques stating the Beach Boys, David Lee Roth, and Matthew Broderick & Sarah Jessica Parker sat there. (The name on one other plaque escapes me...)
This picture shows my marguerita (would you believe I'm not a big drinker?!) and hubby's bottle of local microbrew called Palmetto. The Beach Boys placque is to the right of the bottle.

These are Matthew and Sarah's placques

Let's hope I have some good pictures of Rainbow Row, Waterfront Park, etc. to share with you in a post to come!

Quick Update

We're back from Charleston, SC. Had a terrific time. Walked and walked and walked, and walked some more. If I didn't drop some pounds, I'll be pretty upset!

The architecture was fantastic. The parks along the water were nice. The seafood was delicious!! And, I just loved the history.

We had some hot, humid, unbearable weather ... but, we also had some wonderful breezy days.

Pictures to come...

Vacation, hurry up and get here already!

I am burned out. Had it. I am in need of vacation. Oh, good - look what's right around the corner! I have this Thurs. and Fri. off and I'm going to Charleston, SC. :o)

Hubby was scheduled to be there on business and I was going to hang out while he worked and then we were going to check out the sites. His business plans got cancelled ... but we are still going cuz I'm not about to give up my days off and I sure don't want to just stay home!

My job has to do with the Charleston port, and when my manager learned I was going to Charleston on vacation, she asked if I wanted to tour the port and other facilities. She would make the arrangements.

I'm sorry, but why would I want to do that ON MY VACATION? They didn't get it.

I really wouldn't mind and would be up for doing half a day of work-related things, but I expect it to be considered half a work day - not vacation! My charity days are over ... and, believe me, I've done my share of things over the years and not gotten compensated for them.

They still don't get it!!! Wait, maybe I'm the dumb one?? .... nah

It's amazing. I drive to and from work with all kinds of thoughts rolling around in my head. Sometimes I'm quite witty, if I do say so myself, but when it comes time to type a post, I lose all train of thought. What's wrong with me?!

Work is extremely busy. Not complaining, though. I'd much rather be busy than sit and watch the minutes slowly tick by. Interestingly, I noticed a bird outside my window the other day. He/she had a worm hanging out of its beak. Then I noticed it fly to another tree, where I saw three heads outstretched and mouths WIDE open. Funny, I never noticed that bird's nest! I've got quite a little nature scene outside my window.

I've been at this job a year now. I wish I could say I'm enthralled with it, but I'm not. I really can take it or leave it. Don't get me wrong. I do my job well and with integrity. There's just not much substance. Every once in a while I get a challenge, and that seems to get me excited! I just can't believe a whole year has gone by.

Hubby and I went to the town fireworks on the fourth. We enjoyed it. There are certain times I miss being home, and this is one of them. Memories of family picnics, parades, and the like. I have yet to make flight reservations for a trip back home. I must do that.

Well, there you have it. Some ramblings inside my head! Soon I'll have a real good post, well, maybe....
